We are proud to announce that our sister company, green travel agent Ionian Eco Villagers has won a 2005 First Choice Responsible Tourism Award.  This award is organised by online travel agent www.reponsibletravel.com in association with World Travel Market, The Times and Geographical Magazine.

The First Choice Responsible Tourism Awards are in their second year and celebrate tourism ventures which make a positive contribution to conservation and the economies of local communities, while minimising any negative impacts of tourism. - Which for us means Yannis' committed and hard conservation work at Gerakas for the last 15 years.  He has never received any recognition or thanks for his work; indeed he is often viewed with suspiscion by local Zakynthians for his ecological stance and beliefs.  So for him, this award means a great deal.

With more than 700 nominations overall, and 16 short listed nominations, competition was tough.  The awarad is Highly Commended in Best in a Marine Environment.  Winners were announced at the World Travel Market exhibition on 16th November 2005 at the EXCEL Centre, Docklands, and the awards were presented by TV journalist John Stapleton.  You will see our certificate and photographs at the Wildlife Information Centre at Gerakas this summer.

We would like to thank all our Earth Sea & Sky members and supporters, and customers of Ionian Eco Villagers, for your continued support, as without you this award would not have been possible.
